Court of Appeals found “The County’s position reflects a fundamental misunderstanding” of the law.
3317 vs. Wayne County COA ULPS
AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE:
The WCRA as it was originally organized is being dissolved. It's purpose (which was to organize, educate and collect dues) to fund and fight the local legal battles necessary to protect our health and pension benefits has been exhausted. In order to continue to battle the lasting and wider retiree issues by Wayne County and the State of Michigan we are required to re-organize under a Political Action Committee (PAC). As such, this board is in the process of doing that now, and will have further information in the next 90 days as that process moves forward.
Many of you have asked about WCRA dues for this year. We thank you for that, but will not be collecting dues from our members this year. Instead, under the PAC rules, we will need to solicit donations and will also be holding fundraising events.
To be sure our battles are not over. Re-organizing under the PAC rules however, will allow our group to grow stronger so that our voice becomes harder to ignore.
We look forward to continuing to protect the rights and benefits that were promised to all of us and hope that you will continue to stand by and support those efforts when called upon.
The Wayne County Retirees' Association PAC Board
